Why Would a Loving God Allow Bad Things to Happen to Good People?

One of the most-asked question coming from doubters of Christianity is “why would a supposedly loving God allow bad things to happen to good people”? I personally have wrestled with this question myself and have generally been dissatisfied by the answers I’ve heard from others. In this month’s Life, God, and the Universe entitled Why Would a Loving God Allow Bad Things to Happen to Good People?, we explore the common responses given by Christian leaders and explore an alternative explanation.

    Enjoyed the post.
Indeed it seems that situations present oppurtunities to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.

In Christ I believe we are to experience being conquerors in Him and not complainers; I remind myself of this regularily. I’m not sure where my own whining fits into the Blessed are statements; it doesn’t.

Some of our own bad things are not so bad compared to others still they are oppurtunities to Love and Live well. So if we are missing something- pray for more bad things so we can reap greater rewards. I better get the yoke on first and finish our Fathers and my efforts of faith with what’s on my plate – it is sufficient.

Why Would a Loving God Allow Bad Things to Happen to Good People? The answer is so simple: He wouldn´t. Which is proof that either he does not exist, or that if he exists he doesn´t care, or if he exists and cares he is powerless to prevent bad things from happening to (at least) good people.

Or, most likely, people are not prepared to face these conclusions. Especially white americans, with their adamantium-bible-brainwashed heads, impervious even to nuclear explosions, will not face facts. They´d rather die (literally) than admit to any of the logical possibilities listed above. Expecting them to listen to logic is like trying to talk a stone into jumping. Total waste of time.

They “ask” these questions, not because they are really questioning anything, no, it is only to reassure themselves of their illusions.

Because obviously a white, bible-raised american, can really understand and empathize with a raped 3-year-old and say, “man is a sinner, but that is free will, one day god will judge the rapist” and all is well in their fairyland.

    • It doesn’t feel like you ever read the article… which makes the argument that we are put on the Earth to grow in love and our faith… which requires bad things to occasional happen in order to test our growth. Matt 5 Beatitudes promises that those who get the “snot” kicked out of them in this life WILL be “blessed” (i.e. compensated) for having gone through it.
